- back in 1950's when our old stove was down, we had to cook on wood fire in yard. Mom, was not so good or happy cooking so I improvised. My whinny little brothers wanted puffy store boxed cereals before school. I loved fresh grind corn mush & gritty cooked cereals. about the third day of grips I got a tin & poured chicken scratch on. It popped & they ate it with milk & tons of sugar. Delighted little whiners! We got to wishing for the old stove to break down. I was about 12-13 then.
