- Great videos ...Thanks so much for sharing.
- NEWBIES: When you rinse the seeds in the sink before you put it in jars and pressure cook it, IT'S OK. the pressure cooker sterilizes everything. Before you pressure cook the grain, you can sneeze, cough, or fart on the grain and it doesn't make a difference. Please stop commenting and saying something is wrong when you don't understand what you are talking about, because you are blowing up my email with frivolous things that have no bearing on the validity of this grain spawn technique. I've been using this very tek for many years, and I will continue to use it long after you are done "exploring" mushroom cultivation. I will not argue with you. If you are actually seeking help to understand, please do, I will bend over backwards for you (but not on youtube). If you are trying to shove your misguided views on individuals who are curious, dont waste your time on my videos. -thanks
- Hey man, luckily you caught me on a day where I am on youtube. I don't provide support for this often here, there is a link in the description you can follow right to me where I am everyday. The simple answer to this is NO. Perlite is not absorbent, its the opposite of vermiculite. Don't waste your grains. If you cant get vermiculite you can still do this, just spread the grains out, and let them dry a bit more so that if you touch the grains with a paper towel there is very little moisture
- I cant find any Coarse grade vermiculite locally, could I substitute Perlite for the bottom layer of the grain jar? or maybe the fine vermiculite?
- Maybe in the future I will remake these with better quality cameras and video editing software. I might even add a voice over :D Thanks, I put a lot of work into all this stuff!
- Yes, you can use this grain spawn technique with any species of mushroom that is commonly available commercially. You will of course need a different substrate, and fruiting environment for shiitake than is delineated in the whole tek that this video is just a part of.
- Ty! Curious if I can use this method with shiitake mushroom? I know a bit odd. Anyway I've bought two kits and they always turn out bad, either barely growing or not at all. Also have issues with the ones growing turning out funky.
- cool story bro.
- Ty for showing the technique. Would come in handy if i sometime should grow mushrooms for my entire families and friends ;). For now i buy the usual grow kit get 2 good flushes, and 1-2 smaller flushes supplying me for over 20 trips which i think is 50$ worth compared to the prices of street shroms :P. Im lazy but i think a with the legal issues we have theese days, growing bulk is to risky, and there is nothing like fresh mushrooms. Or newly dried and stored mushrooms.Hope no DEA visit 4u
- This. If this hobby has taught me anything it's patience
- I wish there was some audio:/ , Great video anyways! New Sub!
- Thats pretty normal with any species for any grain spawn that is properly hydrated. Somtimes it takes 14-20 days just to see ANY growth from spores with ANY proper grain spawn tek.
- Took me about 20 days to get a relatively dense colonization using this method, kept in an incubator in the dark at 80 degrees consistently with medicinal varieties. Can I speed up colonization faster?
- I have that same crappy coffee pot. lol
- You are very right.
- This is a subjective thing. Adding music might make a video enjoyable for one person, but annoying for the next. You can play your own music, to keep things universal. This is about knowledge, and skill not fashion and trends :P Thanks though.
- Sounds like you need some cleaner spores. I have bought spores before that were not made with proper sterile technique, and wouldnt germinate in LC or on agar, but would on grain spawn or BRF... Something to think about. Some people really like myc slurry. I have never tried it bc my LC's are like baseballs :P
- thanks for this mz i use to have to open my grain jar to knock them now i just take myc slury and knock them in open air if i could just get a lc working i wouldnt need a gb at all i have tryed and tryed for some lc it just dosent work for me lol well i had one growing but it was a soy sauce and brf but that tamed so now i just use myc slury thanks again mz have a good day
- I understand your confusion now. The hole in the lid is not being filled with RTV. The RTV is being placed on top of the tyvek. It is not preventing gas exchange from occuring because it is not filling the hole. The gasses simply move around the RTV. This is a very common technique among mushroom cultivators who use up to date techniques, which is why I was thrown off by your question. You seem to have the basics down. Sorry if I seemed rude, it really kind of threw me off.
- I'm aware of the RTV's purpose, as well as that of the Tyvek. However, your lids only have one hole in them, so by sealing it up with RTV, don't you eliminate the only hole that would essentially be used for gas exchange?
