- Thank you so much Dr. Mike, for clearing that up! I have both oats in my pantry and do not know which to eat, for I have hypoglycemia or the other my dr. Never really explained both to me or which one I have! All I know, is if I do not eat, I start feeling like I am going to pass out or die! Which is very scary! So I believe the steel oats would be best for me! However, could I cook ahead of time and refrigerate? Could I add chia, fruit and cinnamon to it? A little peanut butter? Thank you so much for a very informative video!!!!! Hugs:)
- Thanks for doing this, I will stick with steel cut oats, whichever is on sale. But I gotta tell you, I like quick answers, and a minimum of bullshit. Your intro was all about your ego, way too long, and then you rambled on and on and on, before "getting to it". This is not 1880. This is 2016. By the way, you should expose the dangers of dairy. Learn about plant based science.
- dr of what?
- Mixing the two 50/50 makes my perfect breakfast. Boiling it for two minutes the evening before and then leaving it to cool down and soak overnight, makes it ready to eat next morning. I like mine warm, so I heat it for to or three minutes. It gives me a porridge along with a nice bite. Smooth and not a workout for the jawmuscles. A little cinnamon makes it heavenly! Hope that helps.
- Dr, the best way to eat rolled oats?

Just add water or milk and it's ready to eat?
- More milk in the rolled oats means more carbs, therefore explaining why it took longer for the glucose to return to baseline level compared to the steel cut oats. These UK scientists dont sound very professional
- Dr Mike's chief reference is a study where they didn't control for amount of milk used. There's no conclusion that can be drawn except 5 mins of life wasted watching this.
- I just found you and I LOVE your videos about food !! Please do more
- well said dr. mike!
- here's an idea 💡 .. quarter cup of rolled , quarter cup of steel cut .. and enjoy both
- Thanks.
- So if you eat a bigger portion of steel cut oats you get full and control the insulin too.
- Oats never have made me stay full very long at all!! The ticker the oats the longer they take to cook and to digest so steel cut will be #1 at taking the longest to digest.I been eating oats every morning of my life sence 2008 I doubt I have missed 2 or 3 times sence then.Oats can prevent sudden death where the heart stops but you have to eat them everyday regularly. They do so much more than reduce cholestrol they protect the arteries from collecting cholestrol buildup!
- Thought I bought rolled oats and ended up buying steel cut oats. Then just put some in a bowl with milk and started chomping away... My jaw has never been so tired
- they are literally the same, only cut.

it's like asking, "what is better, whole apples or sliced apples?"
- I'm prediabetic with high blood sugar, and I've been having Lowan Whole Foods' Wholegrain Rolled Oats for breakfast and I add raw cacao powder, walnuts, chia seeds, unsweetened soy milk, 1 banana and 3 strawberries (which I vary with cherries or blueberries sometimes). Since these are natural sugars and raw cacao powder, am I doing the right thing for my blood sugar levels? The dr said my levels are high for a 25yo and this is all new for me...
- This seems pointless to me.  If you are going to do a study on oats, you don't put a bunch of milk and honey and whatever else in with it.  What kind of scientists don't understand the idea of a control and maintaining as few variables as possible?

I'd also have to think that anyone who does science on this is economically invested, like they are an oat company, selling oats.

It seems to me that if you roll the oat you crushing it and letting oxygen into the whole oat, as well as damaging the internal structure of the kernel/seed which would cause it to spoil faster.   On the other hand if you are cutting the oat, you are only disrupting the part of the kernel/seed that you cut, you have less surface area exposed to oxygen and still have the seed protection around the rest of the kernel.

I also have a problem with saying that anything that you boil for 15 minutes is devoid of nutrition, I don't think there is any scientific basis for saying that.
- Are the calories and nutritional information same?
- Very clear and well produced video Dr. Mike. Thank You. It was interesting to hear about the latest study, but since I am eating oats as the foundation of a plant-based breakfast, the addition of animal secretions into my oats and their effect on glycemic index etc. only clouds, rather than clarifies the issue. I agree with you 100% that given the small differences that one should eat what one prefers best.
